Project: Little book Repaired and Re-bound, featuring new end-sheets and covers.
New covers feature chiyogami paper with foil details, and red bookcloth.
New endsheets are fine Chiyogami paper with foil details.
AFTER The completed Repair and Rebinding; New covers featuring chiyogami paper and deep red bookcloth.
BEFORE: The book's cover - exterior and interior - Prior to work done. Once afflicted by bookworms, the damage can be seen in trails left behind.
Project: Siddur Repair - loose first signature of pages in book. The stitching on the first signature of this book failed, but the rest of the book was in good shape. This repair involved re-stitching the first signature, and then carefully attaching it to the rest of the book with PVA glue and new 'super' to reinforce the connection. After the repair, the book appears as if no damage ever occurred.
Upcoming Project: Kuzari - Double-Fan Binding on Guards Repair This book is from the 1800s, the paper is brittle in places, pages are single sheets, and the original stitching and binding failed. There is old bookworm damage to the pages, including missing text that cannot be restored. To rebind this book, Kozo (mulberry) paper guards will be added onto each page at the spine side, and outer edges will also be reinforced as needed; the book will then be re-bound using the double fan binding method, and new end-sheets and covers will be made. Tears and other damage to pages will be mended with kozo tissue.
Upcoming Project: Chumash - Repair and Re-stitching on Guards This book's binding is failing, and it needs new covers. The original binding appears to have been a mixed method involving some folded signatures, some tipped-on pages, a unique stitching method, and additionally finished with what appears to have been a double-fan method on the spine. The re-binding process will involve re-building the sets of folded nested sheets using kozo tissue, adding guards with heavier kozo to reinforce the outside of each, and then making new holes and stitching through the guards. Then new endsheets will be added, and a new case made.
